The Comacchio’s Saline and the Lagoon
The Saline stretch for 600 acres and are divided into dense interweaving of canals, ponds, and with closed systems divert water and some abandoned huts along the perimeter.
The salt extraction was interrupted in 1984, as it was considered no more a lucrative business. Due to the absence of human activities and therefore disturbing, many species of birds elected it as ideal site for nesting since 2000 and also one of the most important Italian colonies of Pink Flamingo settled there permanently.
