Porto Garibaldi
History and factsPorto Garibaldi (Magnavacca in the local dialect) is an important fishing and touristic port and a seaside town.
The town was born on the north side of the harbor and is the oldest settlement of the Lidi di Comacchio. The original name of the town was Porto di Magnavacca, then the town was named after Giuseppe Garibaldi to commemorate the area where the Risorgimento hero landed in 1849.
Porto Garibaldi is characterized by low buildings that maintain the look of a fishing village along the waterway that connects Comacchio to the sea. To this day the boats unload fresh fish, to be enjoyed later in many popular restaurants.
On the harbor many folklore events are held every year , such as theMadonna of the Sea Festival Feast in June, the traditional procession with decorated boats, and, on the Feast of the Assumption, the great Hospitality Festival.
Porto Garibaldi is a modern and lively seaside resort, equipped with the latest amenities. Anyway, it has managed to maintain the original appearance, traditions and strongbond with the sea.
